Dominic Calvert-Lewin Expected to Depart Everton as Contract Negotiations Falter

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is anticipated to depart from Everton following the breakdown in talks regarding a new contract.

The 28-year-old forward’s current deal ends this month, and an extension that was offered earlier in the season has now been rescinded due to a shift in the club’s management structure.

Everton’s pursuit of Liam Delap suggested they were seeking alternatives, although Delap ultimately chose to join Chelsea from Ipswich Town for a fee of £30 million.

Official communications from Everton indicate that they will maintain contact with Calvert-Lewin’s representatives, yet it is widely believed that he will begin exploring opportunities with other clubs.

Having joined Everton from Sheffield United in 2016, Calvert-Lewin is set to be available as a free agent and is optimistic that his experience will make him an appealing target both domestically and internationally.

He earned a spot in the England squad for the postponed Euro 2020 after netting 16 goals in the Premier League during the 2020-21 season under Carlo Ancelotti, where he focused on penalty-area finishes.

That season saw him start 32 matches in the Premier League, logging a total of 2,876 minutes on the pitch.

Following that successful season, Calvert-Lewin has added 17 top-flight goals to his tally, marking his return from a significant hamstring injury just before the season concluded.

Meanwhile, Everton is also in negotiations with center-back Michael Keane, although he is likely to explore other options.

Idrissa Gueye, at 35 years old, has been given a new one-year contract offer but is seeking a lengthier deal as discussions progress. Club captain Seamus Coleman, who is 36, has also been proposed a playing contract despite dealing with injuries last season.

This summer has seen unprecedented upheaval at the Merseyside club, necessitating a roster overhaul as four loan players—Jack Harrison, Orel Mangala, Jesper Lindstrom, and Armando Broja—returned to their parent clubs.

Everton has finalized a £12.6 million deal with Flamengo for Charly Alcaraz, who performed admirably after joining on loan in February. He has signed a two-year contract, with an option for an additional year.

In addition, Everton has released Abdoulaye Doucouré, who declined a pay cut, as well as Ashley Young, Asmir Begovic, Joao Virginia, Neal Maupay, and Mason Holgate.
